Watches and Wonder 2026 - Raymond Weil The Fifty Anniversary Edition

Watches & Wonders 2026 marked a deeply personal moment for one of Switzerland's most cherished independent watchmakers. Raymond Weil returned to Geneva's grandest horological stage for just its second appearance at the fair — and this time, it arrived with something extraordinary to say.

Fifty Years of Independence

Founded in Geneva in 1976 by Mr. Raymond Weil himself, the brand celebrates its 50th anniversary this year — a remarkable milestone for any watchmaker, and especially so for one that has remained entirely family-owned across three generations. Today, the Maison is guided by Elie Bernheim, Mr. Weil's grandson, who has quietly steered it into one of the most exciting creative chapters in its history.

The centrepiece of Raymond Weil's 2026 presentation is fittingly named The Fifty.

Millésime "The Fifty" — The Anniversary Chronograph

Rather than simply issuing a commemorative dial or a numbered certificate, Raymond Weil chose to do something far more meaningful: they sourced 50 original Valjoux Calibre 23-6 column-wheel chronograph movements dating from 1976 — the very year the brand was born — had each one completely restored and hand-decorated, and placed them at the heart of a new limited-edition Millésime chronograph.

The result is the Millésime "The Fifty" (ref. 1976-STC-65001): a 37mm bicompax chronograph that bridges half a century of watchmaking in a single, cohesive piece.

The Dial

The four-part sector dial is a masterclass in texture and restraint. A silvery-grey chapter ring carries a grained finish with bold black baton indices treated in green-emission Super-LumiNova. The peripheral rehaut features a tachymetre scale with snailed finishing. Moving inward, the central section is divided into quarters, each alternating between horizontal and vertical gadroons — a stamped "tapestry" motif that creates extraordinary visual depth. Two recessed, snailed sub-dials sit at 3 and 9 o'clock, housing the 30-minute chronograph counter and small seconds respectively. Blued and polished hands complete the neo-vintage picture.

Inscribed in the central cartouche: "RAYMOND WEIL Genève"and "EST 1976" — a quiet declaration of origin and pride.

The Case

The case measures 37mm × 10.75mm in stainless steel, fitted with correct "pump" pushers befitting a vintage-style chronograph. The bezel is 18-carat white gold — an impressive and luxurious touch that adds distinction without pushing the watch into the realm of the inaccessible. A glassbox sapphire crystal sits up front; the exhibition caseback is secured by a screw-on ring engraved with "The Fifty," "1976," "2026," and each watch's individual number within the 50-piece edition.

The Movement

The Valjoux Calibre 23-6 — designated the RW1976 by Raymond Weil — is the soul of this watch. A hand-wound, column-wheel chronograph operating at 21,600 vph with a 48-hour power reserve, each example has been fully restored and hand-finished with Côtes de Genève on the chronograph bridges, the balance cock and chronograph bridge treated in striking black ruthenium. The movement is on full display through the sapphire caseback, and it is, frankly, one of the most beautiful sights Raymond Weil has ever offered through a caseback.

Raymond Weil's trajectory over the past three years has been one of the more compelling stories in independent watchmaking. The 2023 Millésime Small Seconds won the prestigious GPHG Challenge Prize. The 2024 Watches & Wonders debut introduced the Millésime collection to a wider global audience. And now, in 2026, the brand has used its anniversary to deliver something that money alone cannot easily buy — a piece of history, restored and reimagined for a new generation of enthusiasts.

The Fifty is not just a celebration. It's a statement of craft, confidence, and continuity from an independent house that is very much hitting its stride.
